I am asking students to install UCINET for my course. However, students using MAC seem encounter problem during installation although they read instruction on UCINET sites. I am not MAC user and I do not know hoe to help them.

'I tried to open the software UCINET withWine Bottler and X11 in my MacBook Air again last night, but in vain. Download os x dmg macdrug. Apple told me that the button 'Anywhere' for installation of softwarewas no longer available for new series of MacBook and that was why failure ofopening of UCINET.

May I know if other methods for fixing theinstallation problems?'

Does anyone know how to fix it? Thank you.

I used this work around in a 2017 class so I dont know if it still is effective.

I teach SNA and have Mac users in the class. So I got a MacBook Pro to see how to use UCINET in that environment. Below is what I have come up with so far. It uses an Oracle utility called VirtualBox.
First, use VirtualBox to install the environment to host a 'virtual machine'. The link to that install package is here
https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads and of course you download and install the OS X host package.
Second, once it is installed you create a new virtual machine in the 'Oracle VM VirtualBox Manager' screen specifying which Windows operating system you are going to run in that virtual machine. You then install a Windows operating system that you can get on a DVD (such as Windows 8.1) . (I also had a Windows 7 disc and I installed that OS on a second virtual machine). I got these from my U's computer store cheap and then followed their instructions to install the operating system. Once Windows is installed (and it takes a while, hour or so, with some input from you), you can then download and install the latest version of UCINET from here
https://sites.google.com/site/ucinetsoftware/downloads using the virtual machine. (It installed for me in both Windows environments – the difference between the two environments is that 7 uses fewer computer resources to install while 8.1's look is that of a Surface Tablet rather than the older desktop config.)
Third, because I like students to keep all working files on a thumb drive or memory stick, they need to update their Virtual Machine with Oracle VirtualBox Extension Pack which is available for download at virtualbox.org site.
Once you have installed it you go to settings on your virtual machine. With the thumb drive plugged into a usb port, you go to settings/ports/usb and then check enable usb controller and enable usb 2.0 (echi) controller and the click on the first button on the right just above the button with the + sign. then click okay. remove the usb stick then launch your virtual machine. when the windows is loaded then plug the stick back in and you should see windows telling you that it is installing the software for the disc and once done the disc should be available in your file list. Then you can change the default folder in UCINET to the thumb drive.

NetworkMiner is an open source Network Forensic Analysis Tool (NFAT) for Windows (but also works in Linux / Mac OS X / FreeBSD). NetworkMiner can be used as a passive network sniffer/packet capturing tool in order to detect operating systems, sessions, hostnames, open ports etc. without putting any traffic on the network. NetworkMiner can also parse PCAP files for off-line analysis and to regenerate/reassemble transmitted files and certificates from PCAP files.

NetworkMiner makes it easy to perform advanced Network Traffic Analysis (NTA) by providing extracted artifacts in an intuitive user interface. The way data is presented not only makes the analysis simpler, it also saves valuable time for the analyst or forensic investigator.

Technologies

NetworkMiner has, since the first release in 2007, become a popular tool among incident response teams as well as law enforcement. NetworkMiner is today used by companies and organizations all over the world.

NetworkMiner can extract files, emails and certificates transferred over the network by parsing a PCAP file or by sniffing traffic directly from the network.

User credentials (usernames and passwords) for supported protocols are extracted by NetworkMiner and displayed under the 'Credentials' tab. The credentials tab sometimes also show information that can be used to identify a particular person, such as user accounts for popular online services like Gmail or Facebook.

Another very useful feature is that the user can search sniffed or stored data for keywords. NetworkMiner allows the user to insert arbitrary string or byte-patterns that shall be searched for with the keyword search functionality.
